How much do lenders like working with Venture Mortgage? Sometimes so much that they end up going to work for the company. Steve Petersen is a prime example. After several mutually productive years interacting with us in his position with a correspondent lender, he made the jump to the brokerage side – and Venture Mortgage – in 1995. In his current role, he is responsible for originating multi-family and commercial real estate mortgage investments for corresponding life insurance companies and other institutional investors. Steve has been on one side or the other of more than $1.5 billion of commercial mortgage originations.
With his background, Steve is known as an expert in arranging loans with life companies. His educational and career paths have taken him from the University of Iowa, where he earned a BA and an MBA in Finance, to his first job with a start-up mortgage company in Chicago, to his move to the Twin Cities area in 1985. He has lived in Apple Valley, Minn., for the past 25 years.
When not working, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife and his four daughters, as well as being with friends, golfing and drawing up basketball offenses.

- Began career in commercial mortgage banking as a Vice President with Commonwealth Commerce Mortgage in Chicago in 1984
- Joined Lutheran Brotherhood (now Thrivent Financial for Lutherans) in 1986 as a Mortgage Analyst, promoted to Senior Mortgage Analyst in 1988 and to Associate Portfolio Manager in 1990
- Joined Venture Mortgage as a Vice President in 1995
- Involved in Mortgage Bankers Association (MBA) of Minnesota, the National Association of Industrial and Office Properties (NAIOP), and the Minnesota Shopping Center Association (MSCA)
- Earned state certification as a General Real Property Appraiser
